Non-Chemistry Usage

A base has been defined as a proton acceptor (by Bronsted), a source of hydroxyl ions in water (by Arrhenius), or an electron pair donor (by Lewis).

Which definition of "base" fits this particular example best? Is every base also a nucleophile?

I'm confused. Why are there so many different definitions of "base"?

A villain exhibits base behavior. Al Quaeda means "the base."  Fort Dix is an army base. There are four bases in baseball, including home plate. The South used to be the Democratic party's base, but no longer.
